After half a century of violent conflict, peace is finally shining a new light on Colombia’s future. Grameen Creative Lab and its partners aim to create an impactful and long lasting social business movement in Colombia, which will change lives for hundreds of thousands of Colombians. Economic opportunities will play a vital role in ensuring that displaced people can return to pursue economic and social opportunities in peace. Social Businesses are a way to use the creativity and ingenuity of business to not only create these economic opportunities but also herald a new society based on equality and social justice.
There is no better time than right now to align civil society, academia, private sector, NGOs and the government around the opportunity to build an unprecedented social business movement. The two-year project will be based on a three-pronged approach around awareness creation through flagship events and youth activities, academia and students, and mentoring and financial support for the most promising social business entrepreneurs in Colombia, to sustainably improve the lives of people who have been exposed to the conflict.
Peace should be understood in a human way - in a broad social, political and economic way. Peace is threatened by unjust economic, social and political order, absence of democracy, environmental degradation and absence of human rights.
